Nat,

For 200 years, third party politics hasn't really worked in America, for whatever reason.

The best we can say is that third party candidates often act as spoilers. Teddy Roosevelt's rump Bull Moose Party led to the Democrat's Woodrow Wilson winning the 1912 election. In 1948, shockingly, the Dixiecrats and the Wallace progressives weren't quite enough to put Repuglican Tom Dewey over the top against the New Deal mainstay, Harry Truman.

In 2000, Ralph Nader's 95,000 votes in Florida proved decisive in sending that election into a statistical dead heat and the eventual judicial coronation of Little King George (the KGB wannabee).
