The Iraqi governing council was formed anyway.

He was on Tim Russert over the weekend. As I tuned in, he was saying we should have given one mil to each of the Iraqi Generals and had them get their army going again. I thought, " Tom, All those guys are Sunnis, who are giving us trouble. Do you want to turn the country back over to the same people we just overthrew? It wasn't just Saddam, you know."

Give it six months, and we are out of the woods over there. It is easy to sit here and criticize. I could come up with a lot of things we could do. But it takes a Bureaucracy to set these things up, and that takes time.

We will just have to put up with the pounding from the anti-war media and left until then.

Good to see that Friedman did not come back in a dither.

SULLIVAN:

RAINES AWARD NOMINEE: Who says we can't keep an award for a legend in media bias? Here's the Guardian today on the Israel-Palestinian impasse:

The militant groups abandoned the truce on August 21 after Israel assassinated a Hamas leader in a missile strike that followed a suicide bombing which killed 22 people in Jerusalem.

Wouldn't that chronology suggest that the truce was ended first by the suicide bombing - or would that imply that Israel isn't always at fault?
