Hmmm. We're talking the governorship of the most populous state with the world's 6th (?) largest economy. There's going to be some serious pressure to get them to take it and enforce the state statute which would require an Oct. 7 election.

Radio news claims that it could be assigned to the Supreme for the 9th to decide alone- -Sandra Day O'Connor. That likely means a 10/7 election.

There is a level in this recall/judges stuff that is more than troubling. If the Supreme Court's decision in Gore vs. Bush can easily be read as a completely political decision; this can be read so as well. What happens then is that we move ever deeper into a narrative in which there is no shame for judges making completely political decisions.

At the moment, the Supremes Gore vs. Bush is the paradigm.
