... all we get is the gi who got killed today...

It's just part of the Media process. They always lead with "Fuzz and Was." Police and bodies. That's what sells the soap. I took a course on the Media years ago that was based on the Axiom that:

"News is what the Publisher wants to advertise."

They "advertise" the news to get you to listen, read, or see the advertising they get paid for. So they lead with what interests most people the most. And that is dead people, and how it happened.

Another way the Media puts it that sums up our Iraqi coverage is, "If it bleeds, it leads."

"Friedman also noted that journalists bore partial responsibility for the DoD's lack of preparedness because they had never reported how poor and broken down Iraq had become"

Unbelievable...

Our intelligence knows "exactly" where the WMDs are, but didn't happen to notice that the country was a mite down at the heels?

I can just see the DoD reading USA Today, trying to set post-war policy.
