One of the largest non union shops in WI was forced to sign with the Sheetmetal Workers last year. Basically they were blackmailed because of underpaying on some state jobs. Anyhow in 1 year almost to the day they went from a 35+ year successful business with over 100 employee's to public auction and liquidation. Between the work rules and the 13 dollar an hour benefit package they couldn't make it. We've had a 3rd generation, 100 year business go down this year that was also union. And all of us that are left are struggling but have no chance when we go against a non union contractor. So of course unemployment in the local is over 25% now and they can't quite figure out why that is. We are up for talks next June which should be a real joy as their health insurance has gone up 2 bucks per hour in the last year and of course they will want us to eat that and all the future raises. Perhaps I will plan some trips for next summer on the assumption that I will be shut down and on strike. <nfg>

As an aside it would appear that Uncle Al has pronounced the recovery firmly in place and stated that the market is grossly undervalued.
