Local Firm Ofinet Will Deploy WipLL in South Florida

BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 2003--Airspan Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:AIRN - News), a leading global provider of fixed broadband wireless DSL networks, announced today its first fixed wireless access network deployment in Florida, with the signing of an agreement with Ofinet Inc.

Ofinet will use the 5.8Ghz unlicensed band to deploy broadband wireless access solutions in parts of South Florida where DSL access is not currently available, and to showcase high speed access applications for potential ISPs and other carriers from Latin America. Ofinet will initially deploy Airspan's high-speed Internet WipLL system at two sites in the western region of Broward County. Expansion plans include serving additional small businesses and residential areas throughout South Florida.

"With Airspan's WipLL technology, we'll be able to serve existing and new customers with high quality services at reasonable prices, better rates for International and Long distance calls and state-of-the-art technologies that together will serve the financial interest of our clients," said Luis Navia, president of Ofinet. "WipLL gives us excellent coverage for high-speed Internet service as well as voice over IP (VoIP). National carriers rolling out nationwide VoIP networks rely on local providers such as Ofinet to implement final mile access solutions."

WipLL enables end users to enjoy a reliable, high-speed Internet connection, while providing operators an opportunity to grow their subscriber base quickly and efficiently without the high capital expenditures associated with the trenching of underground telephone lines in environments where telecommunications infrastructure is poor.

"Florida is an important market for us," said Julio Izique, senior sales director for Latin America. "It gives us tangible deployment scenarios to highlight in the United States to our existing and potential customers in the region who see South Florida as the business gateway to Latin America."
