I had to look it up, but it didn't help interpret what the implications are. Your thoughts?

A market condition in which a futures price is lower in the distant delivery months than in the near delivery months.

deadbull, the contracts which are not traded today "are" in backwardation
futuresource.com

Also remarkable, about 85% of the contracts open interest are for the Decenber. So, IMHO, the bets are on for a huge swing before end of November (fisrt notice).
Swing up or swing down, I'll leave this to the CoT analysers. <g>

Gold Dec contract also trusts about 80% of the open interest.
