I have heard that rumour (That Iraq has smaller reserves than expected).

It might be that ole Saddam has pulled the wool over our eyes on a number of issues and not just WMD. <g>

The seven sister oil companies have explored this area for many decades and it is unlikely they have been fooled too much.

More likely the rumour is intended to cover up an embezzlement scheme worked out with Kuwait to sell the oil as if it came from Kuwait instead of having to "credit it" to the Iraqi people for reconstruction or anything else.


I don't think that's likely since we would only hurt ourselves in the process. However, I would not be surprised if we are wrong on Iraq's reserves. That would sure cause a brouhaha if it were true.
