The major reason this is a "story" is the Cheney connection. He is not stupid enough to be involved in these bids, but it is good grist for the Dems, who are anti-business anyway.

He'd be a complete idiot to be involved in any shenanigans. Given today's political atmosphere, he's going to be as pure as Caesar's wife.

Why let the truth get in the way of the facts? Politics is all about perceptions, images, symbols, and.....do I dare say it?...bullshit.

Say a lie long and loud enough, a significant number of people will believe it.

He's likely clean, but it won't matter.

Hey, Cheney may be stupider than you think.

After he told Russert about the "Connection between Saddam and 911" two big cheeses have run to distance themselves from his words.

Cheese #1
Rummy denied a connection in a press conference yesterday.

Chese #2
Bush is distancing himself right now! The press is pressing Bush about the facts. (They must be getting a backbone.) Bush stammered about something to the effect that Cheney meant a connection between Sadaam and ALQ not between Saddam and 911! (He'll probably have to take this one back too. Oh those pesky Checs.)
