I suspect that it more likely indicates just how much power the specialists on the trading floor actually wield.

Grasso was going after LaBranche and others for front running among other violations.

Who leaked the info to the WSJ? Who had enough power, connections, etc to keep the media, the SEC and even congress focussed on forcing Grasso out?

Somehow I suspect that Grasso was a good guy who got ambushed by one or more very bad guys.

PS I freely accept that his compensation was obscene. BFD. So is that of most other CEOs of other similarly sized corporations.
