Microchip sees Q2 earnings of 17c per share (MCHP) by Michael Baron
NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Microchip Technology (MCHP) shares lost almost 6 percent to $26.44 after the company said it expects earnings of roughly 17 cents per share in the second quarter ending Sept. 30. This outlook is in line with the average estimate of 14 analysts polled by Thomson First Call. On July 17, Microchip forecast earnings of between 16 and 18 cents per share for the period. In a posting on its corporate Web site, the Chandler, Ariz., chip firm also said it expects a sequential increase of 2 to 5 percent in sales in the quarter from its total of $161.3 million in the first quarter. Wall Street's current consensus for the September period is for sales of $167.6 million.
