Fixing the schools is a tough, dirty fight. The Teacher's Union will use any method they can to stop it

There was a recent "Frontline" which dealt with just that issue (the unions succeeded).

School districts in Omaha and 2 other midwestern cities (KC I think was one, Cleveland may have been the other) were allowed to subcontract a private corporation to take over each district's schools, both management and style. They had a highly impressive track record in previous schools...

THE UNIONS would have none of it. They instructed all the teachers that they would have to leave at class closing every day - no exceptions. There were other "implied" instructions about how their students should "fair" on the state exams.... etc....

Does the NEA care at all about children? Are they interested in finding WAYS to correct this mess or is the only acceptable way theirs? Is that attitude progressive (or even academic)?
