GST. you said...." Terrorism requires a violent reaction on the part of its intended targets in order to fuel an escalating cycle of action and reaction."....

I disagree. Terrorism requires it's victims to cower and submit. Terrorism will stop when they win or they are stopped by massive force. IMO. the muslim terrorists don't want us to fight back they don't want a violent reaction on our part. They want us to submit to their demands.

You said....." Israel might now be in a "no-win" situation as the cycle of violence is so well established that nothing can change it. For the rest of the world, if you want to defeat terror, look at what has happened in Israel and try not to make the same mistakes. "....

I disagree again. Have a look at hamas's reaction to Israel's use of force against the terrorists leaders of hamas. Massive and brute force is the only sensible way to deal with terrorists. NEVER NEVER negotiate or deal with terrorists....NEVER.
The terrorist arafat has been around all this time and has been responsible for many many innocent people being murdered....this is what dealing with terrorists will get us....more terrorism.

....." A senior Palestinian said Hamas indicated it would stop attacks in exchange for Israel halting targeted killings of Hamas members and other military strikes.".....
