chicken or the egg.... despair of being dishonored thru defeat was real as evidenced also by the great number of "Sepiku" deaths.. bottom line is these suicidal fighter pilots, Kamakazis, went to their death for the greater glory of their Warrior Code and the Emperor. the majority, if not all, of these young men were well educated and dedicated to their profession, they got a con job from their despairing older leaders who BTW did not do Kamakazi duty. I don't believe despair caused them to Kamakazi in the same sense as a Palestinian teenager would turn to Radical Islamic Terrorism and its purported rewards.
