What are we supposed to learn? Perhaps preconditions to agape -- patience, forbearance, acceptance, how to live without hate, how to serve others selflessly. The conditions described in heaven seem to have people "living" that way, but don't seem conducive to teaching people how to live that way.

The question of a soul being sent to hell after an unsuccessful attempt at life is interesting. Are there souls that are irredeemable? Would the Bible suggest that it's free will, in this instance to follow Satan to hell? It seems inconceivable that one would make that choice.

This body is more like a prison which hold a spirit, then how can this life be a gift from God?
Perhaps the learning opportunity is the gift?
