This is one of my main complaints about the new voices in the media. Coulter, for example. It's perfectly fine to say that we liberals don't know what we're doing, that are methods are unsound and unsafe, and that following a liberal path will lead to a weaker, lesser America. It's quite another thing to accuse liberals of hating America, or of being traitors, because we don't agree with their course to a better America. This sort of divisive 'journalism' brings up memories of McCarthyism, Hearst, and Yellow Journalism. Most of us had hoped we'd gotten past those stages of hateful politics, but I guess it must just be cyclic... As far as myself, I'm not always reasonable, and understand how we all get caught up in the heat of the debate. But, I think there are a small number of posters here who are simply trolls, on both the left and right. SI has given up on trying to keep things civil, so I guess its a free for all. Good to find folks who want to engage in some possibly heated but constructive debate.
