Kerry, the third Democratic presidential contender in the last two weeks to campaign with Davis, denounced the recall as an "abuse of the democratic process" and a "power grab by the GOP."

"Don't let the Republicans monkey with the democracy of California," Kerry said. "I hope you will reject that and let this governor continue the good work he is doing."

After the event, Davis predicted this recall would prompt a wave of recalls in California and across the country -- and said he strongly opposes a new effort to recall Nevada's Republican governor.
