The "common man" is often far brighter than the top academics because we can see "the emperor has no clothes" and we'll say it.

I never trust folks who "rely on credentials" as it shows they lack confidence and skill to examine the data and arguments themselves. Sure great academic credentials are great and are a good starting place to look for talent, but....

If I want to emulate someone for business success, I'll look at the college dropout who STOLE a business from the SuperPower IBM and turned it into a World Class Monopoly and made himself and Paul Allan the top three richest men in the World [ story: suite101.com ]. Steve Balmer, the laggard, fell off the top 10 and is now "only" number 11.
