The U.S. is losing the war because the military does not know who it is fighting.
usatoday.com

American soldiers in northern Iraq fired on a car carrying the Italian official heading up U.S. efforts to recover Iraq's looted antiquities, killing the man's Iraqi interpreter, an official said Friday in Rome.

The chickenhawks who launched this war based all of their planning on old John Wayne movies. This is not WWII where all of the enemies on one side wear grey uniforms, and all on the other have slanted eyes. The soldiers in Iraq are getting picked off and they don't know whether it is by dead enders, Italian diplomats, 14 year old wedding guests, or the keystone cops. All they know is they are getting shot and scared and want to shoot at something. That is a war that will not be won.

No President has been able to fix squat there, one might fairly say

I guess the question becomes: is it a 'solvable' problem?

Only time will tell, but past history doesn't seem to support a positive result. If the idea is to create a democracy, I think we'll fail. If the idea is to give the Iraqis a chance to choose a government that will have both representation and stability (a Republic?), then there is an outside chance. However, it is my opinion that if we overstay, it will diminish the chances of a successful non-despotic regime.

We'll just have to wait and see.
