I glanced around as well to see what happened to them. Often the death is only coincidentally related to the disaster to which it's attributed. My friend was just tickled to have two free days off from work when she could have gotten there and back without much additional effort, even as she rued the cost of the shutdown. My next door neighbor went into work for free on Thursday because she had stuff that had to be done. Not a scratch on her.

President Bush declared major disasters in North Carolina and Virginia, where 12 people were killed, including six in traffic accidents, four hit by falling trees, one drowned while canoeing and a utility worker who was electrocuted.
