This is the first job loss to this degree we have seen in 70+ years. Coincedentally, there is also anecdotal evidence of offshoring, which is confirmed by virtually anybody working in high tech or at a large US multinational. There have been exposes on the topic on the business shows- Lou Dobbs, Kudlow and Cramer etc. IEEE has had presentations in Congress, and just yesterday a visa session was held, to deal with the "crisis" (that you don't think exists).Firms such as US-based consultancy group Accenture Ltd - formerly Andersen Consulting - IBM, Hewlett Packard, Cap Gemini Ernst and Young and Electronic Data Systems have set up shop and are doing work away from the United States to take advantage of cheap labour. "Now the norm is definitely offshore," said BR Sheaker, chief of CRV Consultants Private, a headhunting firm for IBM, Hewlett Packard and Dell Computer Corp. "And India is a good option for these firms as the costs can be driven down." australianit.news.com.au I have no idea what your denial of this obvious labor shift has to do with your love of Bush, the most incompetant president we have ever had. To me, this offshoring seems like a bipartisan issue, something that has to be dealt with and not something you have to go on the defensive for in an attempt to defend Bush for yet another major screwup. But whatever, as long as congress and every governor in the country recognizes the issue for what it is, the fact that you don't doesn't much matter. Even Bush, not the sharpest tool in the shed, and his lackluster economic team seems to finally "get it". At least they stopped saying that jobs are a lagging indicator. Duh.
