The GOP is in big trouble with Hispanics. The California recall is going to blow up in their faces vis a vis Hispanic voters. Also the move in Texas to re-district and cut out Hispanic voters' power. Not to mention Florida where they kept thousands of minorities from being able to vote.

The Estratda move was transparent. The guy is clearly not qualified, has a speech impediment and refused to express his views. He was a set-up. Pure tokenism. I watched him on C-SPAN and the guy was really unimpressive. He's one of those anti-communist types from a right-wing background in Central America I guess. Remember the death squads? There are right-wing Hispanics, and some of them are pretty scary.

Contrast Estrada to top-notch guys like Richardson, Bustamante and Torres. Same with the blacks in the GOP. Except for Powell (and is he even a Republican?) they all seem a bit demented. Condi Rice instills zero confidence these days, in way over her head. Contrast to leaders like Rangel, Willie Brown, Harold Ford who really get it.
