I think you are being naive if you don't understand that the American consumer is an endangered species in this economy:

Henry Ford had it right in 1914. When he decided to pay a living wage and sell his product to his workers, the Wall Street Journal and the Republican establishment railed against his moral turpitude.

The Republican establishment is just as stupid today as it was back then.

They want to send all the jobs to China, and rule over a bankrupted empire. In that, they are no different from the Conservative Party in Britain in the early 20th Century, helping England settle into a comfortable state of mediocrity and second class status while their arms merchants like Vickers prospered.
