NY elite supports clark because they yearn for a return to the clinton salad years. Limo liberals fail to recognize that while bob rubin/ag management of the economy was good during this period, the pre-reqs for the expansion occurred in earlier regimes. These same folks refuse to recognize that the world and particulary NY was changed on 9/11.
So dean is on the left, the two or three other serious candidates are in the center and Clark appears as the clintonista candidate designed to capture most of the center and all but the most radical left. The guy who ended the old welfare system while maintaining his leftist credentials, the guy who was a flat out free trader but who maintained his union support, and the guy who did very little to help african americans but always had their overwhelming support, now tries to pass that magic along to clark. IF Clark gets his act together and the clinton managers are as good as advertised, perhaps he can pull it off and get the nomination. mike
