While the predictions of the neo-cons in Iraq have been shown to be "far off the mark", less has been made of their prediction of what the effect of a US occupied Iraq would have on the region. The Road Map to oblivion is one example. And a "cowed" Syria is another.

Syria brushed aside on Saturday as "futile" United States pressure to secure its cooperation with U.S. policies and argued that Washington should display a better understanding of Arab interests.

and in response to "a Syria Accountability Act which could lead to more sanctions against Damascus"

"What we are interested in is that Iraq regain its independence and sovereignty and that the Iraqi people are able to determine their destiny. This is the direction of our interests as Syrians and Arabs. (If) the Americans have other interests then that's their affair"
