Interesting article, but possibly moot after today's reports that Saddam is in negotiations for a surrender to the US. Mind you, they come from Debka and the Sunday Mirror, so take them with the requisite dose of NaCl.

sundaymirror.co.uk

If these reports are correct, Saddam is much more deluded than anyone ever suspected. He will of course get no safe passage to Belarus. But he will hand the US election to Bush on a golden platter, especially if there is good news about OBL's death (which I increasingly think is the case) during the Dem nomination fracas.

Arafat's base will be much more tenuous if Saddam is found. There may be no need to expel him. Sharon's theory that the road to peace in Palestine goes through Baghdad, which I thought was a bit of over-blown hyperbole, might just have some truth to it.

We'll see.

If the Saddam reports are true, the French are badly screwed. Blair's chestnuts are pulled out of the fire.

Very interesting development, if true. I'm still trying to think about the ramifications. They include no Hillary, no Clark--total political avalanche on the part of the GOP.
