It is going to be very interesting watching how this settles out.

I hope it settles out with the artists selling direct over the Internet, and making money from concerts. Some will choose to give their stuff away, just to promote the live appearances.

That would mean the demise of the music business as we know it, but you won't hear me mourning over that....

The only reason this is even an issue is because it takes so much money to fund the kind of exposure that gets records sold. That means artists still buckle to the labels, who have the bucks. And they have the lock on getting music on the radio and MTV. In return, they expect mega returns from CD sales - 90 cents on the dollar.

Really interesting watching this industry change. Music stores used to be the cool place to go. I loved thumbing through the tapes and LPs. Those days are gone - the music store is dead. And I think the days of BigMusic are ending as well.
