I just noticed the awards this TV Movie won. It was outstanding. I have watched it twice. See it if you get the chance.

The Emmys

The TNT movie "Door to Door," a real-life drama about an indefatigable salesman afflicted with cerebral palsy, was named best television movie and also won for writing, directing and acting. It was a clear sign that voters of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences seek and endorse the kinds of uplifting and emotional dramas that are often missing on television. Steven Schachter won the directing prize, Mr. Schachter and the actor William H. Macy won a writing award for the film, and Mr. Macy won for his acting.

"We never in a million years thought we would win this, so we wrote this as a joke," Mr. Macy told the audience at the Shrine Auditorium as he began his acceptance speech for the writing award.

Iraq is all about money as far as France is concerned and always has been.

I don't think this is true. Long before Iraq became a major issue, the French were staking out the need to block American unilateralism and restrain American use of power as a major part of their political and diplomatic identity. Their recent actions were consistent with this position. It's easier to say that it was about money, because it makes American opponents look mercenary and churlish, but if you look at the long term that analysis just doesn't hold up.

It wasn't about money, or oil, for the US either, though many would like to pretend that it was. A little pattern here: forget the issues, accuse your opponent of being motivated by money. It's common on both sides.
