RE: "destruction of the whole" Your definition of productivity makes the the initial premise of this discussion invalid. That was obvious from the start. The initial premise is interesting and I think it leads to a broader definition of productivity. The new definition would be "output per personhour worked" without a perceptible, measurable decrease in the value of the ecosystem. Additional sophistication would quantify and subtract the decrease in the value of the ecosytem.
