But if National security is priceless, then spending on defense makes people richer. What is the value of GPS in cost savings and productivity and would it have ever been created without the velocity of money from government spending.

Life with diminished fear is priceless. One can argue the meaning of GDP based on the value one perceives. But I don't see defense spending as making people poorer. To me all the money spent on baseball makes people poorer. It should be spent on soccer instead and all would be richer.
