<The Chalabi assumption on the part of the Neocons...>

These guys are not from the Realist wing of the Republican Party. They are idealists, starry-eyed utopians, out to remake the world and ChangeEverything. Whatever it takes. Gotta break eggs to make omelettes. Nothing is too much of a stretch for them; no tool is too dirty to use.

You think the gang who did Iran-Contra (now back in the saddle) worries about Chalabi's shady past?

If the dems are so smart and patriotic, why didn't they (and why don't they) assist with some substance, rather than simply harangue? Arm chair quarterbacking is easy. Calling for a coalition is easy. But I haven't seen them make any tough decisions in the wake of 9/11.

Why? Because to the left and not-so-far left, acquisition and maintenance of power prevails over everything else.

There are actually some on the left who would like nothing more than to see a successful terrorist attack right before the election to hurt Bush and help them at the polls. To them, the human carnage would be just a cost of (political) war, justified by their assent to power.
