Dean's grass-roots campaign is limited. About 400,000 people. Mostly angry anti-war left, students and Naderite types. Not enough of a support group to win the nomination, concentrated in liberal states and irrelevant during the general election. Though admittedly he has excited some people who might otherwise snub their noses at both parties.

Amongst this same voter group, Kerry fares second best, and according to polls is the second choice of 76% of Deanies. though that will change with Clark entering. Dean in particular will lose a big chunk of his support to Clark.
