The nominee may be most peoples' second choice in the end. It appears likely that no candidate will get to the convention without enough delegates to make it on the first ballot, maybe not even the second. Clark might be the only guy who can break that logjam, but don't read too much into his first week's polls.

If you do the math and say Kerry, Clark, Dean and Gephardt are there in the end with about 17.5% each, give or take, then who wins?

Not Dean because he's the least likely to beat Bush. Gephardt vs. Kerry, give Kerry the edge. So then it's up to how well Clark comes across in the end. If Clark does not have the full confidence of the party to be #1, then Kerry gets it as a compromise consensus with Clark as his Veep. An almost unbeatable ticket for Bush.

How? 37% of the delegates are largely controlled by the party officials, and the party officials want to WIN. Of course if Clark HAS what it takes then maybe Clark-Kerry or Clark someone else like Biden. And no, not Hillary.
