" Come on, you know the answer to that one. Your question assumes that the Palestinians are alone. Let me quote you to you: Nadine Carroll, September 21, 2003If it were just the Israelis vs the Palestinians, it would have been settled long ago. The Palestinians know that the other Arabs won't ride over the hill for them, but the Arabs keep promising and the Palestinians can never give up hope. #reply-19328420 Every neocon knows that Saudi Arabia is the source of terror funding for the Palestinians. For that matter, remember the ship filled with weapons that (was it) the Iranians sent? Still another example of assistance from abroad. Not to mention the Europeans, who seem to have considerably more sympathy for the Palestinians than the Israelis. No, the fact is that the Palestinians have plenty of friends abroad, and over the years, the number of friends they have has increased. Of course they are confident, not deluded. In fact, one of the reasons that the Israeli right wing was so hot on getting Bush into Iraq was because the Iraqis were giving cash to Palestinians . Another objective was to cow the Saudis, Iranians, and Syrians so that they'd quit supporting terror (in Israel). That proves that the Palestinians were not delusionary. They saw the money, and it was real money, not a delusion. Where do you think they get all those military explosives they use in the suicide belts? Switzerland? Now the Palestinians see the US getting its butt kicked in Iraq, and it is a real butt, not a delusionary butt. We're losing more troops in Iraq than the Israelis are losing in their foolish enterprises. After we abandon Iraq, all the happy hotheads that we have trained will come for Israel, and we are training them in large numbers. Nothing like the sight of a superpower getting its butt kicked to attract the terrorist wannabees. After the US dumps Israel (for the sin of failing to equalize their society so as to give a fair position to Arabs despite having many decades to do it, for more details see the Or commission report), it will be "Israelis vs. Arabs", and that will be the end of the Israeli state, as far as a state for "Jews only" is concerned. Israel will negotiate. Re: "For the Israelis to look to "cut a deal" that would leave them in a worse position than the Copts in Egypt, they would have to be desperate indeed. " Uh, a better comparison would be a "worse position than the Whites in South Africa", and yes, you'll eventually get there, just like the whites in South Africa (which used to be a big buddy of Israel) got there. The fiasco in Iraq brings the day closer. -- Carl
