Good morning to you, Mike. I've had my coffee but am as likely to ramble.

I find the decision trees offered us by the Bush administration vis a vis Iraq to be the problem, rather than picking one branch or another. The pick right now is between Chalabi and Bremer. I don't like either branch.

The option I see, which is definitely not on the table, is either a UN mandate for Iraq with the US maintaining "order", that is military stuff, or many sided civil war. Or, perhaps, and most likely, both.

It looks to me as if there is no way to avoid serious conflicts within groups for military power within and, obviously, little likelihood of avoiding civil war between the tripartite ethnic groups. The US is quickly wasting its small legitimacy gained from the quick victory and is unwilling to pass the baton to a much more legitimized UN.

Not happy times.
