Bush not the only one addressing the UN. Wonder how much coverage this will get in the US media.

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan has criticized the Bush administration's position that the United States has the right to take pre-emptive military action when threatened.

In remarks opening the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Annan said unilateral military action outside the U.N. Charter represents a fundamental challenge to the principles the United Nations was based on.

More on the "doctored" dossier.

The British intelligence chief responsible for a pre-war dossier on Iraq's weapons dropped a key sentence from it days before publication after prompting from Downing Street, an inquiry heard Tuesday.

He did it at the suggestion of Jonathan Powell, chief of staff to Prime Minister Tony Blair, the inquiry heard.

The offending sentence stated that former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was prepared to use chemical and biological weapons "if he believes his regime is under threat.""

Powell argued that phrase suggested Iraq was only a threat if attacked.

The revelation that Powell ordered the sentence to be omitted raises fresh doubts over the intervention of Blair's office in the compilation of the September dossier.

When in this post earlier today,

Message 19334212

I compared Campbell's diary with Nixon's tapes, I didn't know that "expletive deleted" was part of the similarity.

The alleged offence had been committed in Whitehall by Mr Campbell and Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary. Mr Campbell had confided to his diary: "GH [Geoff Hoon] and I agreed it [the revealing of Dr Kelly as Gilligan's source] would f*** Gilligan."
