"If he is to be elected in turn, Clark will need to get a domestic program--and quick. On his first outing, he was visibly stumped by questions that his rivals, Dean, Kerry, Lieberman et al. could have answered in their sleep."

More miscalcuation by the neocons. Given a choice between Bush and Clark, the far right (the anti-war ones) will choose Clark in a heartbeat. The battle is over the moderates. Clark is clearly not anti-war; he is anti-Iraq adventure. The moderates will see that, and vote for him.

A brilliant strategy. The left can't win with a Dean/McGovern anti-war candidate, but they can win with someone who knows the difference between a justified war and an adventure in imperialism.
