Iraqi Council Bans Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya for 2 Weeks, AFP Says
Sept. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Iraq's Governing Council banned the Arabic-language television networks Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya from reporting its proceedings from Iraq for two weeks, saying the two organizations are inciting anti-U.S. violence, Agence France-Presse reported.

``Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya will temporarily be excluded from any coverage of Governing Council activities or official press conferences, and correspondents of the two channels will not be allowed to enter ministries or government offices for two weeks,'' a statement said.

Entefadh Qanbar, a spokesman for the Governing Council's current president, Ahmad Chalabi, had vowed the networks would be ordered to shut down their offices temporarily. The council's decision was made with a representative of L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator for Iraq, present, AFP said.

The Bush administration has accused both networks of highlighting attacks against U.S. soldiers and presenting a skewed view of the occupation. Both networks denied allegations of bias and said they hadn't been consulted before the decision, AFP said.
