China says yuan policy an internal affair
Reuters, 09.22.03, 10:56 PM ET

SHANGHAI, Sept 23 (Reuters) - China said its handling of its controversial currency policy is an internal affair in which no other country had the right to interfere, the official China Daily newspaper said on Tuesday.

China has the world's fastest growing economy, fuelled by an influx of foreign investment and strong exports, which in turn have prompted calls from some trading partners, most notably the United States, for a revaluation of the yuan.

"The exchange rate system and policy are a country's internal affair and no other country has the right to interfere," the English-language paper quoted a spokesman for the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) as saying.
