Re: A woman from Code Pink was on the Jim Lehrer show last night

Her name is Medea Benjamin, and I've been following her efforts with great admiration since last fall. She's an owner of Global Exchange in San Francisco. She was the Green Party candidate for Senator from California in 2000. She is a founding member of Code Pink, and also of OccupationWatch.org. She's traveled extensively in Iraq, picketed in front of the White House, gotten removed from an FCC hearing because of protests on the June 2 giveaway to the corporations.

I was delighted to see that the News Hour would actually allow someone as honest as Medea to go up against Richard Perle. Without expressing my obvious biases, I think Medea got some good points made during the interview, she was no shrinking violet against Perle's aggressive mendacity. There must really be some bad problems with the Bush plan for Iraq for the News Hour to feel it can get away with putting Medea on air. Normally, Jim Lehrer and the producers of the News Hour are very circumspect about putting on anyone with stron anti-Administration attitudes and actual knowledge.
