IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 2003--Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC - News):
* Dual-Channel 1 Amp Device Provides One Fixed, One Adjustable Output * Single-Channel 1.2 Amp Device Has Ultra-Low Voltage Dropout Ratings * Data Storage and Multimedia Applications
Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC - News) has introduced two new surface mount dropout regulators for managing power in data storage and multimedia applications including hard disk drives, CD-ROMs, ADSL and cable modems, battery charging circuits, instrumentation and PC peripherals.
Designated the LX8819(TM), the first device is a 1 amp, dual-channel, low dropout regulator providing accurate voltages from two independently-regulated outputs, one of fixed output and one adjustable. It is designed for dc supply voltages from 3.5V to 10V, producing a typical dropout of 1.25V at 1 amp and 1.1V at 500 milli-amps.
The second new device, the LX8820(TM), is a single-channel 3.3V fixed output regulator having an ultra low dropout rated at 0.7V at 1 amp and 0.25V at 0.8 amp. It is designed for dc supply voltages from 4.1V to 7V. Benefiting from its CMOS wafer production process, the LX8820's superior performance increases efficiency by minimizing operating ground current, typically to less than 200 micro-amps.
Both regulators provide independent thermal and current limit protection and loop stability independent of output capacitor types.
The LX8819 is offered in a choice of two 5-pin plastic surface mount packages, an S-PAK measuring 9.27 x 10.41mm, or the smaller D-PAK (TO-252) measuring 6.47 x 9.70mm. In 10K quantities, S-PAK devices cost $0.78 and DPAK devices $0.73.
The LX8820, in a 6-pin plastic MLP surface mount package measuring 3 x 3mm, is priced at $0.56 in a quantity of 10K.
The LX8819 and LX8820 regulators are available for immediate sampling and delivery. Complete technical information is available on the Microsemi web site, www.Microsemi.com. Samples and evaluation boards can be ordered through this site, or from Microsemi sales representatives and franchised distributors.
