His English is so good that he impresses the hell out of us.

He was selected to head the INC precisely because he knows how to impress Americans. The question now is whether he will be as good at impressing Iraqis.

Chalabi reminds me a lot of "Bebe", the Israeli minister. His English is so good that he impresses the hell out of us. I never did buy that Jordanian criminal charge, it was trumped up, IMO.
Their English is "so good" because they each lived in the US for years in their youth. Do you use speaking English without an accent as a measure of how "impressive" someone is? Is that a reason for not believing the Jordanians about him? As leaders go, Hussein was pretty impressive. I'm sure that there was corruption in Jordan like there is anywhere else, but looking at how skillfully and successfully Hussein managed Jordan through some extremely difficult years--he died of disease, not assassination, and he got his chosen successor to follow him, even though there were alternatives, and even though he changed his mind a couple of times, making that feat even more difficult--I doubt if he would allow a "trumped up" charge to stand against someone like Chalabi. I have no real knowledge of what the case against him was about, however, or if it had real merit. I would just give Hussein the benefit of the doubt in cases like this.
