>>Skeeter, I have to go with gp on this one. Selfishness is at the core of capitalistic theory. Striving to make money, in a capitalistic competitive society, motivates companies to make products that consumers will buy.<<

gp and i are not at odds on this issue. he manipulated a straw man and then burnt it down.

where i take issue with gp, and it is a fundamental point not be missed or taken lightly, is in his conclusion that i should, therefore, "trust" in the selfishness of others in "all economic matters".

that's pure tripe. he's saying i don't understand economics b/c i question the validity of bush's actions and motives in giving most of the tax cut to the elite rich.

following that logic, if bush decided to give all tax receipts to me, you would be an ignorant schmuck for questioning bush's actions.

he took a specific example of me not trusting bush on one issue and then extrapolated it to the general concept of selfishness.

that's VERY BAD FORM and ILLOGICAL.

>>The alternative is communism, ("to each according to his needs, from each according to what he can produce") which just does not work very well. It has been tried.<<

ha ha ha! see th folly of his twisted, irrational, illogical attempt to build up a straw man to knock me down?

i agree, self interest can be a good thing. i NEVER said differently. i NEVER implied differently. NOTHING i said can be reasonably construed in that manner.

i DISAGREE with gp's implication that i can't question our leader's motive on certain issues.

>>There are a lot of problems with capitalism - but it is still better than anything else that has been tried.<<

i NEVER said anything different. i TOTALLY agree.

why am i having to defend myself on this again? b/c of gp's illogical straw man creation?

>>Everyone's homework assignment tonight is to reread (heck, considering the education system, maybe I should just say read) "ANIMAL FARM".<<

again, i agree with you.

gp took my criticism of bush on the tax cut and irrationally extrapolated it to mean something entirely different.

i guess you didn't catch this not so subtle fact.
