What's interesting to see is the willingness of so many to criticize America, contrasted with the almost reflexive defensiveness toward any European nations criticism.

I can't look at the threads here and agree with that. What I see is a whole bunch of people willing to approve reflexively of any criticism aimed at those with whom they disagree, and to reject reflexively any criticism aimed at those with whom they agree. It's not a terribly honest approach, in whatever direction it's applied.

Certainly there are as many reflexive defenders of American policies on this board as there are reflexive critics.

Point being, each nation has a lot of growing up to do, France, Germany and the rest of the world are no exception, including the Philippines.

I agree. It is true, though, that America's vast power and global influence mean that our episodes of immaturity are more likely to impact upon others than those of countries with lower profiles.
