(NYSE:KSS - News) will open 13 stores simultaneously at 8 a.m. on October 10 in Arizona, its 35th state. Kohl's stores feature well-known brands, value and convenience, a formula that has earned high marks from shoppers around the country. The Arizona stores bring nearly 2,000 jobs to the state and offer shoppers a chance to experience for themselves why Kohl's is one of the nation's most recognized retailers for customer satisfaction. In addition to a grand opening sale, Kohl's is giving away a customized Hummer, Hawaiian vacations, college scholarships and gift cards. There are more than 2,500 prizes in all. Beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 10, the first 800 Kohl's shoppers at each store, ages 16 and older, will receive a free, limited-edition Kohl's tote bag. The custom-printed tote bags are available while supplies last. The 13 stores span the greater Phoenix area (10), Tucson (2) and Flagstaff (1). These stores are among the 48 stores the company is opening next month and signal another move in the company's ongoing expansion into the Southwest, which was highlighted by a 28-store opening in Southern California last spring. In addition to Arizona, Kohl's is also making its debut next month in Nevada with three stores in the greater Las Vegas area. Other communities across the country that are being served by Kohl's stores for the first time include Virginia Beach, Va., Albany, N.Y., Birmingham, Ala. and Little Rock, Ark. Kohl's, which posted sales of $9.1 billion in 2002, brings to Arizona a history of success based on delivering well-known brands, value and convenience.
