To bring stability to the region and depose a sht disturbing dictator.* Which in turn was supposed to increase the safety of Americans. Remember how it was promoted as part of the "war against terror"? A flourishing and democratic Iraq will make the world and the middle east a better place. Sure. The question is when that will happen and what it will cost. I wonder how you would feel about it if it takes a decade and costs hundreds of billions in US taxpayers money, some thousands of American soldiers' lives, not to mention higher terrorist attacks within the US.
