PlanetLink Communications to Launch Design and Development Phase for Its 'PlaneTrak' GPS Technology Product Wednesday September 24, 12:30 pm ET - Product Technology Evaluation Completed By Karta Technologies Inc. - CUMMING, Ga., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PlanetLink Communications Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: PLKC - News), a provider of satellite-based products and services announced today that San Antonio, Texas-based Karta Technologies Inc. has completed a comprehensive technology evaluation for PlanetLink's PlaneTrak GPS technology product. Karta is a leader in information technology, engineering, training and program management services. PlaneLink will produce a family of GPS-enabled Mobile Locator Units (MLUs) under the PlaneTrak name, designed to communicate real-time location data and other information over the General Packet Radio System (GPRS) to a secure Internet server. PlanetLink is exploring applications for both consumer and commercial customers for tracking people, vehicles, and a variety of other assets. Karta evaluated potential open-architecture software solutions to perform the tracking functions of the system as well as price, performance and availability of existing GSM/GPRS-compatible mobile units and the feasibility of developing a proprietary tracking element. Karta's evaluation concluded that there are devices available from several sources that could interact with the PlaneTrak server. In addition, Karta has recommended that PlanetLink utilize modules currently available from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that integrate GPS/GPRS functionality and the unique requirements of the consumer markets to design and produce a customized vehicle MLU to meet the specific requirements of PlaneTrak. A design firm specializing in the development of the GPRS communications modules has been identified to complete this task. Software development activities on the PlaneTrak tracker, database, and website are underway and are anticipated to be complete during early 2004. Design and development efforts for the PlaneTrak vehicle unit have also been initiated and a prototype is expected to be completed by late 2003. Thereafter, integration testing of the PlaneTrak system with commercially available MLUs should allow for launch of PlaneTrak services by early 2004. "We are excited to have reached these long-awaited decisions. We now have definitive, expert conclusions and data on which to base our immediate development plans for PlaneTrak," said M.
