BubbaFred,

Re: Still 50% or so under the spell? Who is doing this?

My bet is on big pharma, big media and big government (not necessarily in that order) providing a vision of comfort in flocking behind the fearless leader.

Still 50% or so under the spell? Who is doing this?

I think most of the republican party is led by single-issue advocates. This may be abortion, gun control, racist or other issues. The point is that they do not attempt to provide an overall coherent plan, just a list of single issues and a very detailed database on getting the correct infuriating message to the correct recipient. Then overall publicity from the Murdoch, Moonie, and Clear Channel media outlets provides a loose coordination by repeating the buzzwords for the issues to all, but never the details lest this variety of angered individuals realize that they have much less in common than they think.
