That is so GREAT!!!

Last year, as you know, my class gave books to the elementary class that visited us- and we will do that again. Many of my high school students brought their own gently used but much loved children's books to school to give to their elementary buddies. This year it was a pleasure to be able to provide every high school student with a book of their choice as well. There is no frigate like a book....

Books in the hands of children is one of the most important goals we can strive for- because becoming an independent reader is the key to learning. No teacher can teach what a person needs to know to be truly educated. Students must be able to read and educate themselves. Teachers are just rangers in the wilderness of what there is to learn- we show the trails, we explain the lore, but we can't walk the trails for our students, nor can we go off all the trails and blaze all the new ones they will need.
