A shift seems to have been made from charitable aid by religious groups (which we disagree about - I see it as generally positive and you see it as negative) to evangelism.

OK, as regards evangelism as "cultural imperialism" in the present day world, I'd like to point out what the current state of the world is.

Presently, Europe and North America combined have 39% of the world's Christians. Africa and Asia have about 35% and Latin America has 25%. Based on present trends, by 2025 those percentages, respectively, will be 29%, 46%, and 24%. Africa and Asia is where Christianity is growing fastest and the growth is not generally attributable to the influence of foreign missionaries from the west.

Christianity is primarily a third world religion, not a western one. There are now about 1500 Christian missionaries in Britain, most of them from Africa and Asia. The US is now the 13th largest receptor of foreign missionaries.
